Written by author and archivist Richard Daniels and designed and illustrated by artist Melody Phelan-Clark, The Occultaria of Albion is a fictitious and famed part work magazine series devoted to the weird and unusual.
It might be billed as fiction but the Occultaria of Albion series draws you in as if it were a copy of Fortean Times, with a bit of Viz thrown in. The stories are written with such conviction that when reading you might experience a sense of Déjà vu, leaving you unconvinced as to whether or not you’ve heard the facts before. It will recall memories of TV series and magazines of yesteryear like Arthur C Clarke’s Mysterious World, The Unexplained and X Factor (magazine not the TV series!): interspersed with the spoof ads and ‘Did You Know’ segments are page upon page of investigative journalism that patrols the hauntological hinterland between reality, the imagined and the half-remembered. Questions you’ll be left with after reading Volume 15 will include: ‘What really did happen to Peggy Dale?’, ‘Didn’t The Sword of Nimiane used to be on Fridays before Crackerjack?’, and ‘Why has folk legend’s Weft and Warp’s seminal album ‘Nearshore’ never had a re-release on vinyl?’
