Fomies, a dynamic quintet from Switzerland’s Vaud Riviera, has been dazzling audiences since their formation in early 2017. Originating as a group of four close friends, they quickly produced a self-made EP that established their unique blend of surf-punk and garage rock. Their early releases, including the self-titled ‘Fomies’ (2019) and ‘Melting Seas’ (2020), opened doors to prominent Swiss venues such as Fri-Son, Romandie, Ébullition, Amalgame, and Rocking Chair (RKC), and even led to performances in France and London.
As their sound evolved, Fomies expanded to include a keyboardist, enriching their music with fuzz-laden psychedelic elements. This progression culminated in their third album, ‘Reversal’ (March 2021), released through Vevey-based Bleu Lagon Records, which received acclaim from the Swiss music press. Their fourth album, ‘Sudden Lag’ (2022), co-released by Humus Records and Irascible Records, showcased their signature blend of energetic jams and resonant riffs, coinciding with the introduction of a new bassist.
In November 2023, Fomies unveiled their fifth studio album, ‘Ominous Prominence’, this time under Zurich’s Taxi Gauche Records. Recorded at Ritmo Studio in Leysin with Benoît “Gérard” Erard (L’Éclair) in November 2022, this album exemplifies their commitment to exploring extraordinary soundscapes, fusing heavy psych and krautrock influences. Their immersive and visceral music invites listeners on an epic journey through strange dreams, gentle meadows, and wild streams.
Renowned for their explosive, high-octane performances, Fomies has ignited prestigious stages, including the iconic Bad Bonn Kilbi, Paléo Festival, Relâche Festival, and the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival. Their raw energy and powerful, bewitching fuzz continue to captivate audiences, making each live show an intense journey unfolding on a path full of pitfalls.
Their fantastically loud sixth album, ‘Liminality’, was released on April 11, 2025, and further expands their sonic horizons and solidify their place in the psychedelic krautrock scene.
Prepare to embark on a musical voyage with Fomies, where each performance is an invitation to explore uncharted auditory territories.
“The psych-rock equivalent of melting cheese on a hot planet. It’s like monsters, spaceships, teeth, sort of like meth-laced cotton candy.. or like electric bananas? I think it sings in guitar sounds that wiggle and twitch. The drums are too hot, seriously.. I mean The Onion Man? The album is too long, and it feels like you could get tape worms with googly eyes if you listen to the whole thing in one sitting. Good Stuff.” – Crypt Guard
