Broadcast never seemed interested in the mainstream, seemingly more content with experimentation with the pop music form than attempting to conform to it’s accepted formulae and rules. ‘Come On Let’s Go’, one of their most overtly commercial tracks, was released as a single but only brushed the upper reaches of the UK top 100. The record buying public may not have been ready to openly embrace the band en-masse, but the depth of affection for them and appreciation for their music has grown over time, and they now garner a level of appreciation that their creativity and approach fully deserved but that eluded them at the time.
The Noise Made By People was the first studio album to be released by Broadcast, and also the first recording they made for Warp. It’s more band-based than later material but still boasts plenty of the electronic experimantion that came to define their sound.
