Emma Houton is a New York City based vocalist and electronic musician who composes using electronic loops. They draw inspiration from folk songs and the turbulence of daily life, and are interested in pushing the boundaries of the human voice and creating a completely immersive sonic experience.
Composed after ethnographic study into her Irish folk song roots, and recorded as part of her senior thesis in experimental electronic music, Emma originally wrote The Bath as a piece for eight voices to be performed live. Due to the COVID pandemic, she ended up recording all eight parts alone in her childhood bedroom, mixing and producing it herself.
“Emma Houton has delivered one of the year’s most singular albums.” – The Irish Times
“a hypnotic, beautiful and slightly eerie world…a magical introduction to a songwriter who isn’t quite like anyone else you’ve ever heard before.” – For The Rabbits
“Brims with escapism and a sort of enchantment” – High Clouds
