Writer Richard Daniels and illustrator Melody Phelan-Clark bring to you Volume 15 of The Occultaria of Albion; a part work series recovered and re-published for inquisitive and exploratory minds!
For this casefile, we set out for the Cumbrian Lake of SKELLWATER, where there are buckets of watery weirdness – kidnappings, crashes and curious kid’s TV programmes and much more! Grab your cagoul and don’t stray from the paths – this is the weirdest body of water in all of Albion!
Written by author and archivist Richard Daniels and designed and illustrated by artist Melody Phelan-Clark, The Occultaria of Albion is a fictitious and famed part work magazine series devoted to the weird and unusual.
It might be billed as fiction but the Occultaria of Albion series draws you in as if it were a copy of Fortean Times, with a bit of Viz thrown in. The stories are written with such conviction that when reading you might experience a sense of Déjà vu, leaving you unconvinced as to whether or not you’ve heard the facts before. It will recall memories of TV series and magazines of yesteryear like Arthur C Clarke’s Mysterious World, The Unexplained and X Factor (magazine not the TV series!): interspersed with the spoof ads and ‘Did You Know’ segments are page upon page of investigative journalism that patrols the hauntological hinterland between reality, the imagined and the half-remembered. Questions you’ll be left with after reading Volume 15 will include: ‘What really did happen to Peggy Dale?’, ‘Didn’t The Sword of Nimiane used to be on Fridays before Crackerjack?’, and ‘Why has folk legend’s Weft and Warp’s seminal album ‘Nearshore’ never had a re-release on vinyl?’
“A glorious flight of the imagination, with a vein of dark(ish) humour running through it. Liminality, hauntology, urban wyrd, synchronicity – The Occultaria of Albion has all these flavours and more.” – Zeenscene
“Lincolnshire-based Richard Daniels and his partner-in-strangeness Melody Clark are the shadowy powers behind The Occultaria of Albion, a series of glossy zines spoofing the paranormal partwork magazines of the 1980s and 1990s. Imagine Vivian Stanshall editing The Unexplained.” – Bob Fischer, Fortean Times
